Plan your meals
Treat eating out on the road in your motorhome like you would at home and plan ahead in advance. Prepare meal plans, look at recipes and work out what you could buy that would last for a few meals, such as dried pasta and tinned essentials, like chopped tomatoes.
If you are planning to cook and eat under the stars via a campfire, make sure that you have the right foods for the occasion, foods that will not take all night to cook and some marshmallows for afterwards, of course!  And why not try to plan and final night on the road celebration meal, to make it extra special!

One pot dinners
You’ll find that one pot dinners are ideal when living out on the road. Either via a slow cooker or simply in one big saucepan, one pot meals are typically filling, will allow for leftovers and save on endless amounts of washing up – especially handy for when space is at a premium!
One pot meals that work well include curries, throwing in the rice at the end, meatballs & spaghetti and pasta bakes. Serve these dishes with a side salad and a generous helping of garlic bread if so desired and there you have it – a decent meal that isn’t too expensive and will leave enough leftovers for lunch the next day!

Ready meal pig out
If nothing else, a holiday is meant to be a break form the norm, and in some cases that will mean having a night off from cooking – yes! Of course, you could nip to the local pub, restaurant or takeaway, but why not stock up on a few ready meals and pop them in the oven or microwave for a tasty and quick dinner on the go?

Remember the essentials
Make sure that before you head off on your holiday on the road, you pack salt, pepper and a selection of herbs, spices and sauces. Or if you are planning on doing a shop once you have reached your destination (or one of your destinations), be sure to stock up. The blandest meal can be transformed with some clever seasoning and herbs!

Like here in the UK,  you can be stopped anywhere you travel and be asked to produce your documentation – in order to save any mishaps from happening, take a look at our list of driving abroad essentials:

Valid full driving licence
This must be a full licence, not a provisional licence. Although the paper counterpart is not valid in the UK, if you still have it, we would advise to take it aboard with you just in case.

International Driving Permit
Apply and obtain an International Driving Permit which lasts for 12months – an International Driving Permit is recognised internationally and allows the named holder to drive a vehicle when abroad, in conjunction with a full UK driving licence.

Vehicle registration document – V5c
It is important that you have the original paperwork and not a copy, as a copy will not be accepted.

Motor insurance certificate
Again, ensure that you have a paper copy of this certificate. These days a lot of the policies we have are emailed or held in an online portal. Make sure you print a copy out so you have one in paper form and also make sure you have the contact details for your insurance and policy number saved on your phone in case you need to speak to them,

Passports
Never forget your passports!

Travel Insurance documents
Travel insurance documents form a major part of the insurance policies abroad, so be sure to have the details hand and stored in your phone as well as the paper documentation printed and ready to produce if needed.

With a number of themed areas, the ability to stand in awe as you view the mini models and the chance to create your own Lego creation, LEGOLAND is well worth the admission fee in our opinion!

Alton Towers is possibly the biggest theme park in the UK, and more than likely the most well-known! With thrilling rides such as ‘Air’, where riders experience the exhilarating feeling of flying like a bird, Alton Towers also has a few hardcore rides such as ‘Nemesis’ and the plunging ‘Oblivion’ – rides that are designed to get your heart racing!

Flambards Experience

A full-on family experience, Flambards Experience includes a number of rides to please everyone including ‘The Shuttle’ that powers riders into the air and into a spin with ‘The Thunderbolt Ride’ – everyone is a winner at Flambards!

Drayton Manor

With Thomas Land for the little ones and a number of rides suitable for the older, braver members of your party, Drayton Manor has a great mixture of attractions. Oh, and Drayton Manor’s ride ‘Apocalypse’ has just been voted the UK’s scariest ride……!

Things have changed considerably over the past few years, with more and more electrical devices and gadgets around to keep little people entertained, but what else should you have in your kids bag?

Movies, games and apps
As just said, devices and gadgets are for more common these days, with many households home to a tablet of some description. Load it up with apps (and battery!) before setting off and encourage children to play on it for short spells when bored. Also pack a few DVD’s and earphones, so that your kids in the back seat can watch their favourite movie on the go either by the in car system or a portable DVD player.

Travel games
These never go out of fashion! Travel games are a scaled down size of popular board games, such as Monopoly, Guess who and Connect Four, these games can entertain kids and adults alike for hours. Also, these travel sized games are handy as they are smaller than the original size, so can be stored in travel / hand luggage sized bags nice and easy without given you too much more weight to carry!

Books
Colouring books, magazines, story books, travel books – books are an essentials! Encourage the children to dive into a book to help them escape, like Harry Potter or The Hunger Games or simply crack open the colouring pens and get creative. Magazine are also popular, especially with boys who might find a book to daunting.

Oldies but goodies!
If nothing else and the kids still get bored, why not revert back to the old tried and tested games like I Spy and first to spot a yellow car!

Hopefully with a mixture of all of the above ideas, you will be able to enjoy your holiday travelling, with all of your hair intact!

Bottled water
It might sound obvious, but it is best to stock up on some bottled water before you set off on your travels. If you are visiting the UK, weather can be very unpredictable – scorching hot one day, rainy and sticky the next! Water is always needed, for drinking, pets and also for washing….don’t forget it!

Painkillers
If you are unfortunate enough to suffer from headaches, you will know that these can just crop up OUT OF NOWHERE! It is best to have a handy pack of painkillers with you on your travels. But they are not just used for headaches – aches and pains, mild fevers and sprains can be helped with painkillers. It is also an idea to pack a few more medicine cabinet essentials – fly spray, plasters, allergy tablets and bandages make up a basic kit.

Books and mags
Sometimes, when you have pulled up to a nice spot, it is a nice idea to catch up on a bit of reading or do the crossword in your magazine. Make sure that you pack enough books and magazines to keep you entertained throughout your journey.

Laptops and batteries
Keeping connected with the world is more and more important these days, especially if you have kids! They won’t want to miss the opportunity to post pictures to Facebook, so it is super important that you don’t forget the chargers! Laptops are also a great place to keep copies of all of your documentation, travel plans and routes as well as personal information – but it is also best to have a paper copy of important documents, if possible.

Historic Newport

Newport was created after the Normans conquered Gwent in 1093. In the early 12th century they built a castle by a ford in the River Usk. The town outgrew the earlier Roman town of Caerleon, gaining its first charter in 1314. It grew considerably in the 19th century, when its port became the centre of coal exports from the eastern valleys of south Wales. Until the rise of Cardiff from the 1850s, Newport was Wales’ largest coal-exporting port.
During the 20th century, the docks declined in importance, but Newport remained an important manufacturing and engineering centre for Wales. Newport suffered severely in the depression of the 1930s and unemployment was at a high, but its industries began to boom again when World War II began. Newport suffered a number of air raids during the Second World War. However after 1945 the town continued to flourish. In 1949 St Woolos Church was made a cathedral.

Landmarks

Newport Castle

Not much remains of Newport’s pre-industrial past apart from the cathedral and the ruins of Newport Castle, squeezed between traffic-clogged Kings Way and the river. The castle was part destroyed by Owain Glynd?r in 1402 and was never properly refurbished. Only the section facing the river is still standing and sadly it’s not possible to enter the site.

St Woolos Cathedral/Newport Cathedral

Newport’s ancient cathedral provides a fascinating walk through history. The cathedral is the Diocese of Monmouth, in the Church in Wales, and seat of the Bishop of Monmouth. The name “Woolos” comes from Gwynllyw, the 5th-century Welsh saint who first founded a religious establishment on the site. When visiting the city, this is always a must-see for tourists.

Transporter Bridge

The spindly towers of the 1906 Transporter Bridge rise over the river, about a mile south of the city centre. A extraordinary piece of Edwardian engineering, it can carry up to six cars across the river in a gondola suspended beneath the high-level track, while still allowing ships to pass beneath. It’s also the largest of eight such bridges remaining in the world.

A motorhome holiday may surprise you – Many people have never even thought about going on holiday in a motorhome, but these people don’t know what they are missing out on! One of the best things about going on a motorhome holiday is that they can be relatively cheap, meaning that even if you don’t have much to spend during the Easter break you can still treat yourself and your family to a short trip away. In a recent family survey, more than two thirds of parents (68%) say they would choose a leisure vehicle holiday not only to avoid airport stress and luggage restrictions but also for the freedom, adventure and flexibility it offers.

Plan ahead – The Easter break is usually seen the perfect time to get away with your family, as it’s long enough after Christmas for people to save up and the weather is usually looking much brighter and getting much warmer. However, the idea of going away for Easter is very popular amongst families, which can mean travelling during this time can get stressful, especially if you haven’t planned ahead. If you are planning to visit a popular tourist destination such as the seaside, then you will have to start planning your holiday as soon as possible. Many caravan parks and campsites get fully booked really fast at this time of year, so if there is a particular destination you wish to go to, book now. Something else to take into consideration is traffic – driving a motorhome can be difficult especially as they are not known for their speed or manoeuvring capabilities, so make sure you give yourself plenty of time and consider other road users.

Choose the size of your motorhome wisely – When hiring a motorhome, make sure you think about the amount of room you will need to comfortably fit you and your family. Kids can often get restless and irritated if they are in a confined space for too long, so always go for a motorhome that has enough space for the whole family to feel comfortable in. Prepare for the weather – This Easter, the weather is set to be warm and dry, pretty much across the majority of the UK. But make sure you’re prepared for the bad weather too! Rain can put a downer on your holiday as it can stop you and your family from enjoying the countryside and all the activities you may want to do. If it does rain, make sure you have plenty of activities or games to get involved in if you have to stay inside.

Today, Belfast is a fantastic location for the whole family, there’s something for everyone. There’s shopping, fine dining and tours plus much more to keep even the pickiest visitors busy.

Historic Belfast

The name ‘Belfast’ comes from the Gaelic ‘Beal Feirste’ (‘mouth of the sandy ford’). The history of the city dates back to the 17th century and started to grow during the plantation of Ulster when charters were granted to develop land in the province. A Royal Charter was granted in 1613 giving Belfast ‘town’ status where it continued to thrive thanks to its location adjacent to Belfast Lough. It soon became a port for wool, grain and food exported to and from Ireland. By the end of the 17th Century other industries had also begun to develop in the town including linen, rope making and tobacco production.

Then there was the introduction of the Harland & Wolff shipyard in 1862 who built the famous RMS Titanic in 1912 amongst other spectacular ships. The shipyard was one of the largest and most productive in the world employing a vast number of the workforce in Belfast. Queen Victoria granted Belfast city status in 1888.

Titanic Belfast

The head of the slipway where the Titanic was built is now occupied by the gleaming, angular edifice of Titanic Belfast, an all-singing all-dancing multimedia extravaganza that charts the history of Belfast and the creation of the world’s most famous ocean liner. Since opening in April 2012, the centenary of the ship’s sinking, it has rapidly become Northern Ireland’s most popular tourist attraction, outstripping even the Giant’s Causeway.

City Hall

The Industrial Revolution transformed Belfast in the 19th century, and its rapid rise to muck-and-brass prosperity is manifested in the extravagance of City Hall. Built in classical Renaissance style in fine, white Portland stone, it was completed in 1906 and paid for from the profits of the gas supply company. An intriguing attraction and a definite must-see when visiting Belfast.
